Williamson shares what’s happening in Arlington

By Vanessa Williamson

Hi readers! I’m excited to announce that I will be contributing to The Times-Journal.

There is a lot going on in the community despite the pandemic and this is an outlet to share that information with you to the best of my ability. Let’s dive “write” in, shall we?

Did you know Arlington has a weekly movie? Shown on the new scoreboard at Alkali Field every Friday night at 7:30 PM you can catch a family friendly flick! Spaces are marked on the grass to ensure social distancing. There are concessions available for purchase or you can bring your own! This week’s showing is Little Giants!

Teren Humphrey has been the organizer of this new and exciting family event. Disney’s Aladdin will be the final showing on September 4th. Great for the family and helps support the school! Even if you don’t want to attend, you can still make a donation to help keep activities like this going.

First day of “school” is set for September 8th. Arlington School District will be following a distance learning module for the first few weeks, with a reevaluation on September 21st. The School district has a few new faces, such as Mr. Brandon Hammond the new

Superintendent/Principle. Having this be his first year here and during these unprecedented times, he has his work cut out for him but I think he is up to the challenge.I know him and his family will be a great asset to our community. If you see him, please give him an Arlington welcome!

Speaking of school, this is the last week to drop off supplies for the school at Bank of Eastern Oregon. Every year they collect donations of supplies and have a drawing for backpacks filled full of the supplies needed. You don’t have to be a Bank customer to enter! Stop in and get your student entered, drawing will be held on Friday, August 28th.

If you haven’t been to the Arlington Grocery and Deli lately you are in for a surprise! Bobby and Virpal have been very busy with updates and changes. In addition to keeping the aisles stocked, they have brought in new food products and are always up to ideas of items you would like to see them carry. They recently set up “Harps Subs” a sub sandwich shop inside and are dishing up some Mein Street Chinese food! They also offer several smoothie and fresh squeeze juice drinks to complete your meal! Just this week they brought in Make-Up and have added to their stock of women’s clothing!

Bee Sweet by Toni Ames has also been providing some of her baked goodies such as cookies, cake-pops and freezer cakes. It’s a nice addition to the store and perfect for last minute gifts. My grocery trips always end with a cake-pop! Their crew of employees are very helpful and their customer service is always above and beyond.

If you have anything you would like me to report on or suggestions for stories please email me the information or suggestions to w1385@yahoo.com . I will also place a drop box at the Bank of Eastern Oregon like my predecessor, Kay. I look forward to getting some of the local news out to you all!
