Two elite runners from Condon competed in the National Cross-Country Meet for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in Columbia, Missouri last weekend.
Grady Greenwood, the son of Shellie Johnson, attends Eastern Oregon University in La Grande and Kallyn Wilkins, daughter of Chet and Natalie Wilkins, attends Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.
Both athletes have become leaders on their Cross-Country teams.
Kallyn Wilkins, a junior at Rocky Mountain College, ran as an individual at the NAIA National Meet as her team did not qualify. But Kallyn represented well, finishing 131st out of 327 runners at the National Meet.
Kallyn finished the 3.73 mile run (6 Kilometer) with a time of 23:02.0 in Columbia, Missouri and competed with the top runners in the NAIA.
Two weeks prior to the National Meet, Wilkins finished with a personal best time of 22:56.6 at the Frontier Conference Cross Country Championships.
Grady Greenwood, a freshman at Eastern Oregon University, continued to break records of his own and those held by his school.
Greenwood ran a blazing 24:58 in the 8 Kilometer at the National Meet, finishing 71st out of 326 runners. It was a new personal record for Greenwood, outpacing his previous best by an astonishing 30 seconds. The performance was the second all-time best for a freshman in Eastern Oregon University history.
Kallyn and Grady are now preparing for spring track and field season. Last year, Kallyn did well in outdoor and indoor events – competing in the 4x800 relay, the 800 meter, the 1500 meter, and the one-mile run.
Grady is preparing for his first track and field season at Eastern Oregon University.
