The Ione/Arlington Volleyball team battled in the second round of the OSAA State Championships but fell short to Umpqua Valley Christian on November 2nd.
After defeating Elkton in straight sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in Ione on October 30 to open the 1A State Playoffs, the Cardinals were put away in straight sets by Umpqua Valley (19-25, 11-25, 12-25).
South Wasco County was also eliminated on Nov. 2nd, falling to Crane in straight sets (11-25, 18-25, 13-25). S. Wasco looked strong against Triangle Lake in its opener but couldn't find footing against the top-ranked Crane team.
In the opening round, Sherman Co. fell to St. Paul in straight sets (15-25, 7-25, 11-25). St. Paul has advanced to the quarterfinals, as has Umpqua Valley.
The Wheeler Co. Rattlers fell to Powers on October 30 in straight sets (14-25, 23-25, 17-25).
While the teams didn't advance, there is plenty to be happy about. The Wheeler County team surprised other Big Sky squads this fall and has only one senior on its roster.
Coach Cryta l Rey was extremely happy with the team's performance during the season.
The Arlington/Ione squad is in a similar spot. While the team will lose seniors Najiah Knight, Victoria De La Torre, and Kaitlyn Hooper, the younger players coming up have shown promise.
The same can be said for the young Sherman Huskies team. With two seniors set to graduate, the Huskies will return five juniors next season.
Congratulations to all the teams in the Big Sky and watch out for these teams next season.
