According to the USDA Crop Progress and Condition Report, there were 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork in Oregon, down from 6.3 days the previous week.
Agronomic crops in Columbia, Multnomah, and Washington Counties were supported by adequate rainfall as horticulture crops rolled into winter dormancy.
Clatsop and Tillamook Counties reported constant rain throughout the week, and cool autumn conditions. Field activities consisted of fertilizer and manure applications, and most activities shifted to winter fieldwork as winter dormancy approached.
Hood River, Sherman, Wasco, Wheeler, and Gilliam Counties welcomed a significant amount of precipitation, which provided a much-needed positive outlook for crops. The moisture helped winter wheat and pastures, which struggled from the prolonged dry conditions.
In addition to rainfall, Morrow County also reported snow in the higher elevations of the Blue Mountain Range. Sugarbeet harvest in Malheur County closed in on completion, and rain caused some delays in fieldwork, such as winter wheat planting. Ranchers continued to gather, wean, and sell calves. Lake County also received snow in addition to a healthy measure of rain.
