DevilDawgs drop rivalry game

The DevilDawgs traveled to Dufur Oregon last Friday to face league opponent and rival Dufur. The DevilDawgs began the game kicking off to the Rangers. Jacoby Roberts attempted an onside kick which the Rangers recovered and on their third offensive snap the Rangers found the end zone. After a failed 2-point conversion attempt the DevilDawgs trailed 0-6. The ensuing DevilDawg drive was short lived thanks to an aggressive Ranger defense.

For most of the remainder of the 1st quarter it appeared that the game was going to be a defensive battle. Rhyder Smith, Josh Ward and Isaiah Riggs all found themselves in the Ranger backfield to make tackles for a loss. Jayden Havins knocked down a pass that would surely have resulted in a large Range gain-if not a touchdown. On offense Caiden Walker, Michael Blagg, and Jayden Havins all ran the ball for large gains getting the DevilDawgs close to the red-zone. Gabe Fritts completed a pass to Blake Carnine to bring up 1st and goal. The Rangers kept the DevilDawgs out of the end zone however stopping several rushing attempts and eventually intercepting the DevilDawgs on 4th down.

The Rangers would find the end zone again at the end of the first quarter when a Ranger found a running lane and 44-yards later the Rangers had a 12 point lead.

Gage Simpson would recover the attempted Ranger onside kick, unfortunately the DevilDawgs were again unable to get their offense going and would turn the ball over on downs.

With 9:51 left in the half Jayden Havins recovered a fumble giving the DevilDawgs the ball back. On the first offensive play of the drive Gabe Fritts took the snap and pitched the ball to Michael Blagg who threw a touchdown pass back to Gabe Fritts for a touchdown. After a failed 2-point conversion attempt the DevilDawgs had cut the lead to six.

The Rangers would score on their next drive and force a DevilDawg punt on their following drive-a punt that the Rangers would return for a touchdown bringing the Ranger lead to twenty (DevilDawgs 6 to Rangers 26). Jacoby Roberts had a short kick return kicking off a successful drive by the DevilDawgs. Michael Blagg started off with a 7-yard dive, Josh Ward ran for 8-yards, Gabe Fritts found Michael Blagg in the flats for a 17-yard gain before Fritts found Blake Carnine in the back corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Fritts would complete a pass to Michael Blagg for a successful 2-point conversion.

With 3:04 remaining in the first half the DevilDawgs were only down by twelve (DevilDawgs 14, Rangers 26). Unfortunately the DevilDawgs would not find the end-zone again. The Rangers scored two more times in the first half on touchdown passes, including one as time expired in the first half.

The Rangers found the end-zone for one more score in the beginning of the 3rd quarter which brought on a running clock for the remainder of the game. The final score was Sherman/Condon 14, to Dufur's 50.

Next up for the Rangers will travel to Lyle on Friday October 18th for a 7:00 PM kickoff. The DevilDawgs will be home for the remainder of the season. Friday October 18th The DevilDawgs will face off against Perrydale (4-1) in a league matchup. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM in Moro Oregon.
