Oregon High School Rodeo kicks off fall season

Condon to host High School Rodeo this weekend

Oregon High School Rodeo kicked off the 2024 fall season in Yoncalla on August 23 & 24. The Columbia Basin High School Rodeo Club was well represented by a small but mighty contingent.

On Saturday, Reagan Martin of North Powder lead the way with a third place pole bending run of 22.163. Arlington's Colt Gronquist finished seventh in the team roping with Paxton Otley, turning in a 14.07 time. He also placed ninth in the tie down roping. Molly Davis tied her goat in 9.56, good for sixth place for the Mitchell cowgirl. Heppner was represented by Tripp Steward who placed fifth in the team roping with a 13.5 run. He is a member of the Intermountain Rodeo Club.

The competition ended Sunday with Reagan Martin winning the pole bending by clocking a 21.070 run. In the barrel racing, she earned tenth place points with a 15.578 run. Molly Davis held on to seventh place in the goat tying with a 9.76 and tenth in breakaway roping with a 4.37 run.

The action moved to Sisters September 7 to 8. On Saturday, Colt Gronquist was 2nd in a steer wrestling match with a stout steer and turned in an 18.7 run when he finally conquered the beast. He went on to earn points in the team roping with a 10.37 time. Molly Davis stopped the clocks at 3.71 for fourth place in the breakaway roping.

Sunday, Colt Gronquist was one of three contestants to turf a second steer in the steer wrestling with a fourth place time of 17.21. He teamed with Tripp Stewart to grab third place with a clean 11.09 time. Pole bending action saw Reagan Martin turn in a fourth place run of 21.127. Molly Davis roped a calf in the breakaway in 3.95 seconds for fifth place. She took home the average championship with 7.65 on two calves.

Condon will host the final fall competition this weekend, with action starting at 8:30 am on Saturday and 8 am on Sunday at the Gilliam County Fairgrounds.
