Wingin' It 4-H poultry club meets

By Cora Munkers, 4-H Student Reporter

The Wingin’ It Poultry 4-H Club met August 12, 2024 at the Gilliam County Fairgrounds. Some members were able to come early to help paint the poultry and rabbit exhibit tables as part of our Community Service for the year. The tables look nice and are ready for Fair.

Leader Aubrey Gibson then talked to us about Fair Clean Up Day on August, 25th and the schedule for Fair. Barns will be open at 5:30. Pens are expected to be cleaned by 6:30-7:00. Exhibitors are expected to check on their livestock throughout the day and make sure they have water!

Weigh-in for Fair is Wednesday, August 29th between 12:00 – 7:00. Small Animal Showing will start Thursday morning at 9:00 starting with Turkeys, then Chickens, then Rabbits, and ending with Cavi (Guinea Pig). The Livestock Auction will be on Saturday starting at 5:00 PM.

I will leave you with a fowl piece of trivia: Since Fair is right around the corner, I thought this was interesting. The 2024 San Diego County Fair ran for 20 days. A total of 38,569 turkey legs were eaten during those 20 days of Fair!
