Condon Arts Council and North Central ESD team up to hold summer camps

Several summer camps for area youth have been put together by the Condon Arts Council, in collaboration with the North Central Education Service District (NCESD).

The classes are funded by the 21st Century Learning Grant, a five-year grant that the NCESD was awarded – and by a grant from the Roundhouse Foundation, that the Condon Arts Council secured last fall.

With the combined funds, the Condon Arts Council will hold four camps between July 8 and August 2nd for youth between 4th and 12th grade.

The classes will be held in Condon but will host youth from the schools in the district – including Spray, Mitchell, Fossil, Condon, and Arlington. Enrollment and transportation will be arranged by each school.

First, former Spray teacher Rosie Day will lead an Arts and Crafts class for the week of July 8th – July 12th at the Condon Grade School. Day is an accomplished teacher that has led classes on a variety of subjects.

Next, a Claymation Class will be held at the Condon School for the week of July 15-19. Wendell Seitz will lead the class. Seitz is a board member with the Condon Arts Council and is the lead coordinator for the summer camps. Wendell Seitz lives in Fossil and is the son of Don Seitz, who was raised in Winlock.

Wendell Seitz will also lead a Shadow Puppet and Multimedia Performance class for the week of July 22-26 in collaboration with former ETHOS music teacher Kyle Farrell. The class will offer stage design, music/orchestra, a performance, and of course making shadow puppets. The public is invited to attend a special show at the Liberty Theatre on July 26 at 4 PM.

The fourth and final class will be held over the week of July 29 – August 2nd. Youth will engage in a Game Masters and Role-Playing class led by Seitz, Caleb Anderson, and Alex Potter. A similar class was held over spring break and had a strong attendance and youth expressed interest in doing it again. Youth at the all-analogue class will learn how to play games such as Blades in the Dark, War Hammer, and will also create miniature characters with a 3-D printer.

Students at each school in the district can reach out to their school for enrollment and information about transportation.
