Condon Arts teams up with Condon Elks to hold line dancing class

The Condon Elks Lodge hosted an event by the Condon Arts Council last Friday, which brought more than 50 people to the Lodge.

Boots for youngsters and adults were polished and ready for the dance floor, as the arts group hosted line dancing instructor Natasha Rosenthal.

Natasha is the childhood friend of Clara Steward, who joined the Condon Arts Council board of directors in May.

Rosenthal and Steward grew up together in Midland, Michigan. Steward had been hoping to get Natasha to come out and visit, and when the opportunity to have a line-dancing class in Condon popped up – Natasha booked her flight.

The line-dancing class started with a special kid's session, and then one for adults and families.

Experience ranged from seasoned boot scooters to novices with two left feet. But there were wide smiles and laughter filled the Condon Elks Lodge.

The Condon Arts Council has done a variety of classes and activities since it was first founded in 2021.

Initially created to bring more arts exposure to youth in Condon, the arts group has expanded its programming over the past four years.

Last month, the arts council hosted musician Mike Beck at the Liberty Theatre – and there is an effort to bring more music and events to the Liberty Theatre.

But the Condon Arts Council is also excited to expand its programming to other venues in the community that offer a unique environment. For the line dancing class, there was no better place than the Condon Elks Lodge.

"The Elks Lodge was perfect, an ideal environment," instructor Natasha Rosenthal said.

Having led classes in schools, bars, and other venues throughout the Midwest, Rosenthal said her time in Oregon was special.

"I hope to come back and do it again," Rosenthal said.
