The Fossil Public Library is launching a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing its services, engaging the community, and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. The library is focused on the future, from promoting the Children's Summer Reading Program to developing a new Strategic Plan and reorganizing its services to be more people focused.
The Children's Summer Reading Program is a highlight of the library's summer calendar, inviting young book enthusiasts to discover the joy of reading through a variety of fun and educational activities. By encouraging children to explore new stories, engage with creative projects, and participate in special events, the program aims to spark a love for literature and learning that will last a lifetime. This summer’s program is themed “Read, Renew, Repeat.” Starting on June 21 and going through July 19, the program will be held weekly on Fridays from 11 am to noon. Weekly sessions will include reading and hands on activities. Special guest presentations are also on the calendar for this summer’s fun-filled program! The library will also feature fun activities on Fossil Fridays street fairs.
This summer the Library's Board of Directors is diligently working on crafting a new Strategic Plan that will guide the institution's growth and development in the years to come. By setting clear objectives, defining strategic priorities, and aligning resources effectively, the Board seeks to ensure that the library remains a dynamic and responsive community resource. Five areas of Focus include: Administrative Housekeeping; Facilities Improvements; Early Learning and Youth Programming; Developing new activities and services to engage all ages and Defining and Expanding Unique Services.
As part of its commitment to a more people-focused approach, the library is undergoing a facility reorganization to tailor its public space to make room for meetings and activities, a welcoming and comfortable space for adults, kids and families to read and select materials. Our aim is to meet the diverse needs of our patrons of all ages. By emphasizing community engagement, expanding literacy programs, and introducing innovative services, the library
aims to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all members of the community.
To support these ambitious initiatives, the Fossil Public Library is now seeking to hire a new Library Administrator who will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers on planning and implementing strategic initiatives. The Administrator will work 16 hours per week, coordinating with a Library Assistant to oversee daily operations, collaborate with Friends of the Fossil Library fundraising efforts and provide general administrative and management oversight. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for libraries, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to enhancing the library's role as a hub of education, culture, and community engagement.
With the convergence of the Children's Summer Reading Program, the development of a new Strategic Plan, the reorganization of services for a more people-focused approach, and the search for a new Library Administrator, the Fossil Public Library is embarking on an exciting chapter of growth, innovation, and service excellence. By investing in its future and embracing change, the library is poised to continue serving as a cornerstone of the community for years to come.
