Eastern Oregon Pioneer Association prepares for annual Pioneer Picnic

Cleanup scheduled for June 29; picnic on July 27

The Eastern Oregon Pioneer Association is in the final stages of planning the 2024 Pioneer Picnic.

The annual picnic at Julia Henderson Pioneer Park is scheduled for July 27th, 2024.

People will gather at 10:30 AM and will listen to a presentation by Sam Barry, a descendant of an original Wheeler County Pioneer family.

“The Barry Family from Johnson County Tennessee to Wheeler County Oregon and beyond” is the title of the presentation. The story of pioneers will include the Barry, Howard, Grindstaff, Britt, Price families and more.

The Picnic -Potluck will commence at Noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a side, salad or desert. Hamburgers, hotdogs, lemonade, and tableware provided by the association.

This is a fun get together in a beautiful location. The Julia Henderson Pioneer Park is located on Highway 19 between Fossil, Oregon and Service Creek.

Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to come. Pioneer heritage not required. Anyone with an interest in the area, who loves a good picnic and enjoys a beautiful setting is welcome.

The Eastern Oregon Pioneer Association has been working on the grounds and needs some extra help in the final push.

Dave Prindle, President of the association has mowed the park but the association is scheduling a clean-up day on Saturday, June 29th. Volunteers can come anytime in the morning to pitch in. Bring gloves and any tools (rake, hammer, broom, weed whacker, pruners). The EO Pioneer Association will provide all of the wonderful refreshing water to drink.
