OBITUARY: Suzanne May Hyde

June 18, 1951 ~ May 23, 2024

Suzanne May (Hardie) Hyde passed away peacefully at Summit Springs Village in Condon on May 23, 2024 of cancer complications.

She was born in Condon June l8, 1951, the second daughter of William D. Hardie and Donna (Klint) Hardie. She was raised on the family wheat ranch at Trailfork southeast of Condon.

Suzanne graduated from CHS in 1969. She received her teaching degree from Eastern Oregon University in 1973, and began her teaching career in Heppner in the fall of 1973. Later she earned a Master's Degree from the University of Portland.

She moved to Grays Harbor, Wash. in the fall of 1975 where she was employed at Hoquiam School District, and spent 33 years teaching elementary school. She was selected as a "Who's Who in American Teachers" in 2000 and again in 2006.

Suzanne retired in 2006 and moved back to the family ranch with her husband, Robert. She was an avid reader and gardener. Her hands were always busy sewing, knitting, quilting and embroidering. She loved making gifts for her friends.

Suzanne was a member of Condon United Church of Christ and active in the UCC Women's Fellowship. She was chairman of the Earl Hardie Memorial Scholarship Foundation, and she was also a proud member of the Condon Reading Club.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Robert (Robbie); her parents, Bill and Donna Hardie; and her sister, Nancy Hardie Nylin.

She is survived by her step-children, Jeff Hyde of Cosmopolis, Wash.; and Sarah Bell of Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren with whom she was very close; her brother, John Hardie of Hermiston; and sister, Georgia (Hardie) VanWinkle of Redmond.

Sweeney Mortuary is in charge of final arrangements. At Suzanne's request, there will be no funeral service. Any memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Summit Springs Village, P.O. Box 687, Condon, Oregon 97823.
