Dear Editor,
As a proud veteran and a member of the Wasco community, I want to express my deep appreciation for the efforts being made to honor our heroes this Memorial Day. The upcoming events, including the country breakfast, the Memorial Day parade, and the complimentary BBQ lunch for veterans and military members, are a testament to the gratitude and respect we hold for those who have served our country.
While I am grateful for the complimentary BBQ lunch for veterans, I feel compelled to emphasize the importance of recognizing our heroes with a special complimentary veterans breakfast as well. Breakfast is a symbol of the start of a new day, a new beginning, and it would be a meaningful gesture to gather together over a shared meal before embarking on a day of remembrance and reflection.
The Memorial Day parade holds a special place in my heart as it symbolizes the unity, patriotism, and camaraderie of our community coming together to honor those who have sacrificed for our freedom. I am looking forward to standing among fellow veterans, military members, and community members as we pay tribute to our heroes.
I also want to bring attention to the local baked goods auction, a delightful tradition that not only showcases the talent and generosity of our community but also raises funds for important causes. The auction is a wonderful way to come together, support local businesses, and contribute to the spirit of giving that defines Memorial Day.
I would like to suggest the possibility of a military flyover during the Memorial Day events as a powerful and awe-inspiring tribute to our armed forces. A military flyover would serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our service members and add an extra layer of reverence to the day's proceedings.
As we approach Memorial Day, let us come together as a community to honor, remember, and celebrate the heroes who have given their all for our country. Let us ensure that our veterans and military members feel appreciated, respected, and supported on this important day of remembrance.
Thank you to the organizers and volunteers who work tirelessly to make these events possible. Your dedication and commitment to honoring our heroes do not go unnoticed.
With heartfelt thanks and respect,
Glenn Humphrey USN IC2 (SW)
