Heppner, OR - The Morrow County Livestock Growers (MCLG) recently held its inaugural Littlest Cowpoke Calf Show at Morrow County Fairgrounds in Heppner. This is the start of what is hoped to become a tradition celebrating young talent in the ranching community. This event brought together aspiring young cattlemen and women to showcase their skills and passion for agriculture.
Under the guidance of judge Nick Nelson, along with the diligent organizing efforts of Makenzi Evans and Erin Heideman, the Littlest Cowpoke Calf Show proved to be a resounding success. Participants from various corners of Morrow and Umatilla counties, including Paige Miller, Grace Shoenfelder, Kendal Cavaletto, Winnie Worden, and Quincy Worden, demonstrated their dedication and enthusiasm for the livestock industry.

Meanwhile, Kendal Cavaletto, Miltonfreewater, claimed the top spot in the 8-9 age group followed by Cora Shoenfelder, both impressing the judge with skill beyond their years. Additionally, Winnie Worden captivated hearts and minds in the 3-year-old group, sometimes with with her twin sister, Quincy, in tow.
Reflecting on the event, Morrow County Extension Agent Makenzi Evans expressed her delight, stating, "What a great experience to be a part of and witness. It was a complete joy to host an event that fosters the growth and passion of our youngest cowpokes."
Looking ahead, the MCLG is already gearing up for the 2025 show, scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 9th, in Heppner. Anticipation is high for another memorable gathering of young talent and community spirit.
