Award winning cowboy songwriter and storyteller to play free concert
CONDON, OR — The Condon Arts Council is proud to welcome the dynamic Mike Beck to Condon's Historic Liberty Theatre on Saturday, May 18. The show is free and for all ages.
Mike Beck lives in Montana and performs extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He is known as an engaging acoustic solo artist who has played with some of the greatest cowboy country musicians of all time. Many consider him to be a protégé of his old friend Ian Tyson.
He is a regularly featured performer at The National Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering. Mike has seven albums under his belt with original songs that have been recognized as some of the finest compositions on Western Americana out there.
The Western Horseman magazine recently picked "The 13 Best Cowboy Songs," and included two compositions by Mike, putting him alongside other writers such as Ian Tyson, Tom Russell, Lucinda Williams, and Gene Autry.
Mike is a seasoned performer - his guitar work and warm, genuine style engages audiences with his songs and stories.
Ian Tyson once said "Mike's plowing new ground. He's not re-recording the old Hollywood matinee music from the 30's and 40's. You've got to have focus and keep producing good stuff. I think he walks that.... he's better than all those newer western guys."
Tom Russell said "Mike Beck is one of those writers with the cowboy in his heart. His songs are filled with braided rawhide and mission bells..... Listen up, friend!"
According to Ramblin' Jack Elliot, "Mike Beck plays the guitar like a Byrd. His strings do things that mine could never do. They obey the slightest finger-touch commands like a fine Reining Horse."
The Condon Arts Council is thrilled to host Mike Beck and is hoping for a large audience in the classic Western venue. The Condon Arts Council purchased the Liberty Theatre in 2022 and is working on a large renovation of the historic building, which was constructed in 1922.
Last fall, Buffalo Kin performed at the Liberty Theatre with Tony Furtado and Stephanie Schneiderman. The concert was a hit and the Condon Arts Council is excited to offer more concerts with premiere talent such as Mike Beck.
The Liberty Theatre is located at 216 S. Main Street in Condon, OR 97823.
Food will be provided by Paradise Rose Chuckwagon, starting a 4:30 PM. Doors will open at 5 PM and the concert will start at 6 PM. The event is a BYOB for those over 21 years of age. Free Admission and donations are encouraged.
