Dear Editor,
From a law enforcement perspective this year’s primary election comes at a critical time for Oregon. We need leaders who will hold offenders accountable for their actions to protect families and businesses. We need leaders who will listen to Oregon citizens and local leaders in our communities for the betterment of the whole state.
I am supporting Dave Drotzmann for state senator in District 29 because of his accomplishments with League of Oregon Cities and as a clear decisive leader in his community.
Through his work with the League of Oregon Cities, Dave played a pivotal role in working with lawmakers to repeal the worst parts of Measure 110. Mr. Drotzmann played a vital role in re-criminalizing drug possession and providing a pathway to recovery. Offenders now either enter treatment and get clean or face the consequences. BM 110 clearly did not work without personal accountability and I thank Dave for his convincing efforts with the passage of HB 4002.
In the Legislature, Dave will work to make sure our deputies, police officers, corrections officers and firefighters have the tools they need make our communities safe. I believe he will fully support all our partners to include the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, ensuring they are fully funded so they are able to train all our first responders at a level to safely serve our communities.
I am voting for Dave Drotzmann on May 21.
Sincerely,
Gary Bettencourt
Gilliam County Sheriff
