Spring action for the Oregon High School Rodeo Association kicked off last weekend in Klamath Falls.
The Columbia Basin High School Rodeo club was represented by Condon Senior Gracie Garthwaite, who is also serving as Student President of the OHSRA. In Saturday's rodeo, Gracie placed second in the Goat Tying with an 8.95. She turned in a 16.31 in the Barrel Race, earning fifth place. Spray's Molly Davis, a Freshman, also placed in two events, with a fourth place in the Goat Tying and stopping the clock at 4.0 in the Breakaway Roping for eighth place. Kade Wilkins, Condon Senior, tied his calf in 12.77 to earn seventh place in the Tie Down roping.
The Sunday version of the doubleheader saw Gracie Garthwaite placing third in Barrel Racing, improving her time to a 15.919. She also took home third place in the Goat Tying, turning in an 8.85 run. Molly Davis stopped the clock at 3.56 in the Breakaway Roping, and grabbed fifth place. Brother Oran Davis, a Spray Senior, earned points in the Tie Down roping with a run of 15.95 for 10th place. Clem's Carson Wade tied her goat in 10.44 seconds to place tenth.
Area Freshmen competing were Arlington's Colt Gronquist and Brindlee Tucker, along with Ione's Phegley Padberg. The next competition will be in Hermiston in two weeks.
Next weekend, the Oregon Junior High Rodeo Division will hold the inaugural event at Sherman County's new indoor arena at Moro.
