Steve Douglas Riney, age 72, passed away with his family by his side in Prineville, Oregon, December 17, 2023, from pancreatic cancer.
Steve was born August 20, 1951, to Albert and Peggy Dean Riney in Condon, Oregon. He grew up in Condon until he graduated from Condon High School in 1969. Steve then attended COCC in Bend, Oregon where he received his Associates Degree in Forestry. After finishing his Forestry degree, Steve moved to Bly, Oregon where he worked for the United States Forest Service for six years.
While living in Bly, Steve and Margaret made life-long friends and loved their time in Bly.
In 1972, Steve married Margaret Howell and in 1977 they moved to Prineville. That same year, Steve went to work for Les Schwab in the Production Department. He worked at Les Schwab for 41 years before retiring in 2018.
Steve enjoyed their small farm, branding and working cattle, and hunting. Steve also leased some property in Mitchell, Oregon where he kept his cattle during the summer months. He loved going to Mitchell as often as he could.
Steve is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Riney, of Prineville; his two sons, Brian Riney of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, and his two daughters, Lauryn and Brooke Riney, John Riney (Heather) of Monmouth, Oregon, and their three children, Walker, Taylor, and Mason Riney. He is also survived by his sister, Deanna Stinchfield (Rick), of Salem, Oregon, and brother Dave Riney (Sara), of Condon, Oregon. Steve is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Riney and Peggy Dean Riney, sister, Susan Smith, and grandparents.
