The Big Sky League is entering the final stretch, with league play ending on February 10.
Due to school cancellations from poor weather last week, several games were postponed and rescheduled.
The Wheeler Co. Rattlers had games against Klickitat and Horizon Christian cancelled last week due to school closures and dangerous driving conditions. The Rattlers were due to host Horizon Christian in Mitchell on January 19.
Dangerous conditions on I-84 prompted ODOT to close the freeway several times last week, including on Saturday, January 19 and as a result, Wheeler Co. and Klickitat/Wishram cancelled their boys game.
The Condon school cancelled basketball games at Lyle on January 12 and again on January 22. The Blue Devils also had games cancelled against South Wasco County on January 13.
Schools in Sherman County, Gilliam County, and Wheeler County cancelled school for multiple days last week as well.
Teams will need to shake off the cobwebs as league play moves into crunch time.
Due to the cancelled games, all teams are making up for lost time and will play several games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Some teams have scheduled four games in the final week of league play.
The Condon Blue Devils boys and girls teams have been playing tough, gritty basketball and surprising several teams along the way.
The Lady Blue Devils (1-3 League, 8-4 Overall), have battled and are looking for an upset this week as they host South Wasco County on Wednesday and Trout Lake on Saturday. New coach Jessica Barnett says that the team continues to make strides and that they are a competitive group.
The Condon boys team (1-2 League, 7-5 Overall) has lost some nailbiters against the league's top teams, including a loss to Sherman Co. by six points, and an overtime loss to the Wheeler Co. schools.
The Wheeler County boys and girls teams will host Dufur in Spray on Friday. The Wheeler County girls (2-2 League, 9-5 Overall) are looking to finish league play strong. The Wheeler County boys team (2-1 League, 9-4 Overall) is in a pivotal week of play, after traveling to Sherman on Tuesday night and then hosting Dufur on Friday in Spray.
For boys basketball, all eyes are on undefeated Sherman County (3-0 League, 14-0 Overall). The Huskies narrowly escaped with a win over Condon on January 6 and have impressive non-league wins over North Clackamas Christian and Prairie City.
