BLM opens public scoping period for Lower John Day Basin Land Acquisition Environmental Assessment

PRINEVILLE, OR - The Prineville District BLM is requesting your comments and concerns regarding a proposed project to consider potential future land acquisitions within the Lower John Day Basin.   

The John Day Basin Resource Management Plan (RMP) mapped a zone of lands suitable for acquisition and identified criteria to prioritize lands for acquisition.  

The zone generally surrounds the John Day River and adjacent larger blocks of public land.  Lands considered for acquisition for this EA would be located within the acquisition zone or surrounding upland areas where public ownership would support overall conservation objectives and meet the acquisition criteria.  BLM may also consider acquisition of interests in lands through mechanisms such as easements.  The potential acquisition lands would generally be in the area downstream of Service Creek to Tumwater Falls.
