Access to libraries during the Stay Home, Save Lives shut down

By Mary Reser, Gilliam County Librarian

The Gilliam County Library would like to remind the public that it is still possible to check out books, audio books, and videos from the library.
While Gilliam County Public Library and the Arlington City Library remain closed to the public to comply with the Governor’s Stay Home, Save Lives order; library patrons are still able to check items out through the Library Curb Side service. You can also download books on your device from Library2Go.

There are three steps to using library curb side service …

First, library patrons must place items on hold. Patrons can do that by signing into their account online and placing holds themselves or by calling or emailing their local library. Currently, the Arlington Library is not accepting books from couriers, so the Gilliam County Library is receiving books from the Ione Public Library. For those wanting to order books online, you will need to change your pickup library from Gilliam County Library to Ione Public Library.

Second, patrons should arrive at the library at their designated pickup day and time. Third, patrons should call the library to say they are outside and ready to pick up. Library staff will check the items on hold out to the patron and place the items on a table, chair, or bench outside the front door for the patron to pick up. If you need assistance from your vehicle, staff can place items in your trunk, after patron has popped the trunk from inside their vehicle.

Library staff will continue to answer phones and emails during regular operating hours. All returned items must be placed in the outside drobox. Incoming items are held in quarantine for a minimum of four days before re-shelving and checked out to the next patron.

To ensure the service runs smoothly, library patrons can help by placing their holds online, and following directions provided by library staff. The goal is to maintain social distancing for both staff and patrons during pick up. Patrons can log in to their online account by clicking HERE and selecting the ‘My Account’ button in the top right corner. Please contact library staff if you do not know your login information or you need to set up a new library account.

Gilliam County Public Library Pick-Up hours are Monday–Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Phone: 541-384-6052

Arlington City Library Pick-Up hours are Monday–Friday 10 a.m. to noon.
Phone: 541-454-2444.
